Why Does The Toroidal Transformer Get Hot?

Summer is here, and the air temperature is not low. At this time, the working temperature of the transformer of some electrical appliances should be a bit worrying. Although the toroidal transformer itself has a low temperature rise, it is also affected by the working environment temperature and material.

The heating of toroidal transformer is mainly manifested as iron loss and line loss. Iron loss is caused by eddy current generated by the iron core. As for line loss, it is because there is resistance in the coil, but the line resistance of coils of different materials is different. The larger the line resistance, the higher the heating. There are three commonly used transformer coils: copper wire, copper clad aluminum wire, and aluminum wire. The resistance of aluminum wire is very large, and the resistance of copper wire is very low.

The general practice of toroidal transformer to reduce the temperature is to increase the diameter of copper wire and use better silicon steel sheets. High-power toroidal transformers can use heat sinks or cooling fans to dissipate heat.

EEIO toroidal transformers are wound with pure copper wire, low temperature rise, and even at 1000W, the heat is not hot.
